Why it matters
The used phone market has
a trust problem.
Every year, thousands of buyers get stuck with locked, stolen, or restricted devices. A 60-second IMEI check is the only way to protect yourself.
✕ Buying without verification
iCloud Activation Lock
The previous owner's Apple ID is still linked to the device. You won't be able to sign in, reset, or update iOS. The phone is permanently unusable unless the original owner removes it — and most won't.
IMEI on the global blacklist
The phone was reported stolen or lost. Any carrier in the world can block the IMEI, and law enforcement can seize the device during a routine check. You lose both the phone and your money.
MDM or DEP enrollment
The device is registered under a corporate or educational MDM server. The organization can remotely lock it, wipe all data, or install restrictions at any time — even after you've bought it.
Carrier SIM lock
The phone is locked to a single mobile network (often from another country). Your SIM card won't work. Unlocking can cost anywhere from $20 to $200, and for some carriers like Sprint or AT&T, it may be impossible.
✓ Buying with iPhoneCheck
iCloud status verified instantly
Our report queries Apple's activation servers directly and tells you whether Find My iPhone is on or off. You'll know before the transaction — not after you've already paid.
Global blacklist cleared
We check the GSMA database used by over 200 carriers across 40+ countries. If the IMEI is clean, you'll see it confirmed in writing with a timestamp you can reference later.
MDM and DEP status transparent
The report shows whether the device is enrolled in any management system. If it's clean, you buy with confidence. If it's enrolled, you walk away — or negotiate accordingly.
Carrier and unlock eligibility confirmed
You'll see the exact carrier the phone is locked to, the specific unlock policy, and whether the device is eligible for unlocking. No guessing, no surprises at the SIM tray.
Inside the report
Seven checks. One clear verdict.
Each verification is performed in real time against official databases. The results are explained in plain language — no technical jargon, no ambiguity.
✓ Verified
iCloud Activation Lock
We query Apple's activation servers to determine if Find My iPhone is enabled. An active iCloud lock means the device cannot be set up with a new Apple ID — making it permanently unusable for the buyer.
✓ Verified
GSMA Global Blacklist
The IMEI is checked against the GSMA Device Registry — the world's largest database of stolen, lost, and fraudulent mobile devices, used by over 200 network operators across 40+ countries.
✓ Verified
MDM & DEP Enrollment
We detect whether the device is registered in Apple's Device Enrollment Program or any third-party Mobile Device Management system. Enrolled devices can be remotely wiped or locked by the organization at any time.
▲ Varies
SIM Lock & Carrier Policy
The report identifies which carrier the device is locked to, shows the specific unlock policy applied by that carrier, and indicates whether the phone is eligible for unlocking — along with the expected cost and timeline.
✓ Verified
Warranty & Purchase History
We check the manufacturer warranty status, original purchase date, registration country, and AppleCare eligibility. You'll know whether repairs are covered or if every future fix comes out of your own pocket.
✓ Included
Device History & PDF Report
The full report includes replacement status, refurbishment flags, demo unit detection, and a calculated risk score from 0 to 100. Everything is compiled into a timestamped, downloadable PDF you can save or share.
Risk assessment
One number. Clear meaning.
Our algorithm weighs each verification result and calculates a single risk score from 0 to 100. Tap any range below to see what it means for your purchase decision.
0 – 10
Very Low Risk
All checks passed. No issues detected. You can proceed with confidence.
11 – 30
Low Risk
Minor flags detected — typically a carrier SIM lock or expired manufacturer warranty. Consider negotiating the price.
31 – 60
Medium Risk
Significant issues found — active MDM enrollment, difficult carrier unlock, or replaced device. Request documentation from the seller before proceeding.
61 – 100
High / Critical Risk
Serious problems detected — active iCloud lock, blacklisted IMEI, or combination of multiple high-severity flags. We recommend not purchasing this device.
How we work
Transparent by design.
01
Direct database queries
Every verification is performed in real time against Apple's GSX servers, the GSMA Device Registry, and carrier-specific unlock policy databases. We don't use cached results or third-party aggregators.
02
PCI-DSS compliant payments
Card payments are processed through a Level 1 PCI-DSS certified processor. Your card details are encrypted in transit and at rest. We never see, store, or have access to your payment information.
03
Timestamped PDF documentation
Every report is generated as a downloadable PDF document with exact date and time of each query, unique report reference number, and detailed explanations for every check result.
04
Accuracy limitations disclosed
We include a transparency note in every report explaining what our checks can and cannot detect. An IMEI that's clean today can be blacklisted tomorrow — we make sure you understand the limitations.
05
Fully independent operation
iPhoneCheck is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Apple Inc. or Samsung Electronics. We operate independently, which means our reports have no conflicts of interest.
06
No-questions refund policy
If a report fails to generate due to a technical issue on our end, we either re-run the verification at no cost or issue a full refund within 24 hours. No forms, no escalation process.
Frequently asked
Answers to common questions.
The fastest method is to dial *#06# on the phone's keypad — this works on every mobile phone regardless of brand or model. Alternatively, go to Settings → General → About on iPhone, or Settings → About Phone → Status on Samsung. The IMEI is also printed on the original retail box and on older models, engraved on the SIM tray. A trustworthy seller will provide this number without hesitation — reluctance to share it is a significant red flag.
Yes. The IMEI is a public hardware identifier — similar to a vehicle's VIN number. It is used solely to identify the device on mobile networks. Knowing an IMEI does not grant anyone access to the phone's data, does not allow remote control or tracking, and cannot be used to unlock or bypass any security feature. It is designed to be shared safely.
The majority of reports are completed within 60 seconds of payment confirmation. Each check runs in parallel — you'll see real-time progress as individual verifications complete. In rare cases where Apple's servers are under heavy load, the process may take up to 2–3 minutes. You'll receive both an on-screen report and a downloadable PDF.
If a technical issue prevents the report from being generated, we will either re-run all verifications at no additional cost or issue a complete refund to your original payment method. There is no claim process — simply contact us through the website and we'll resolve it within 24 hours.
Yes. For Samsung Galaxy devices, we verify the GSMA Blacklist, Knox Guard enrollment, SIM Lock status, carrier policy, and Samsung warranty coverage. iPhone reports include additional Apple-specific checks such as iCloud Activation Lock, DEP enrollment, and detailed activation history that are not available for Android devices.
The risk score is a weighted composite of all verification results, ranging from 0 (no risk) to 100 (critical risk). Each check contributes a specific number of points based on severity — for example, an active iCloud lock adds significantly more points than an expired warranty. The final score is categorized into four tiers: Very Low (0–10), Low (11–30), Medium (31–60), and High/Critical (61–100), each with a specific purchase recommendation.
